Biological Analysis

On every bag of fertilizer, whether chemical or biological, there is an analysis of the percentage of available Nitrogen, Phosphorous and potassium (N-P-K) written in plain view. This analysis enables users to determine how much they need to produce a healthy lawn. By Law, manufacturers are allowed to indicated only the nutrients that are immediately available. This causes confusion for people who prefer to use biological fertilizers because most of the nutrients in these blends are available over the course of the growing season. These time-release or insoluble nutrients are not indicated on the bag, but because insoluble nutrients last between 5 and 6 times longer, a rule of thumb can be established. When figuring your nutrient needs with biological blends, multiply the analysis by five before converting the percentage to pounds. We cannot legally tell you that the 5-3-4 is equivalent to a chemical 25-15-20, but we can tell you that the 5-3-4 will out-perform, throughout the growing season, a standard chemical 25-15-20 on the market.
