What is SunFire Institute?

·         It is a school where we learn natural, organic land care methods and land design principles, based on gentleness towards Earth and with an awareness of, and respect for, all living creatures.

·         It was co-founded by Robert Burton, Consulting Horticulturalist & Labyrinth Designer for Labyrinth Synergy, Bryn Mawr, PA and Brian Jones, President of Natural Gardens & Lawns Inc.(“Safeturf”), Villanova, PA.  Our philosophies and management practices represent a 20-year evolution from a pesticide/synthetic fertilizer oriented land care program into a natural/organic approach to land care and design.  We gratefully acknowledge Jeff Frank of the Lyceum of Long Island.  His tireless efforts continually inspire our work.  The time has come to spread the word.

·         We are convinced that another method for care-taking the Earth is rapidly evolving and SunFire Institute was created to inform and educate people as well as to implement this method.

·         We show individuals how to “look at the landscape with new eyes.”

·         We provide “hands-on” implementation steps for transforming pesticide/synthetic fertilizer land-care programs into natural/organic ones.

·         We showcase natural, organic products and services in order to forge alliances between individuals and the natural, green industry.

·         We serve as a clearinghouse for up-to-date information on principles, practices and products within the sphere of natural, organic land care.

·         Our policy statement:

SunFire Institute (SFI) believes that the accumulated scientific data demands that we stop using pesticides and synthetic fertilizers in our homes, commercial landscapes, schools, recreational areas, and farms.   The evidence of toxicity of this type of land care practice is beyond debate.

S.F.I. recognizes that transition periods are necessary to switch from a pesticide/synthetic fertilizer land-care program into a natural/organic one.  Therefore, our aim is to engage in learning situations with individuals so that this transition is a smooth and positive experience.
